Meet Chef Matt Gordon, APPCA
Chef Matt Gordon has been cooking since he was a young boy, when he was responsible for most of the meal preparation in his home growing up. With those lifetime skills honed by professional training and the guidance of other Chefs, Matt now brings his culinary talents to the homes of Louisville.
“It’s very true that we are what we eat,“ Chef Gordon remarks. “That’s why I always use the most natural, freshest ingredients available.“ A strong believer that what one eats affects one’s overall health and well-being, Chef is committed to the preparation of fresh, wholesome dishes that not only make for a pleasant dining experience, but also promote mental and physical good long after the eating is done.
Despite being raised in the Pacific Northwest, Chef Matt’s first love is the cuisine of the Northeast, i.e. New England and Eastern Canada. “I’m not sure why,“ he laughs. “I think it’s because my family came from the same cultural roots as the East Coast, and those are the kinds of recipes I first learned.“ His repertoire has since expanded to include many of the native dishes of his new home of Kentucky, as well as Southern and Northwestern dishes, and representative techniques and recipes from French, British, Italian, and Asian cuisines, and many others.
“Each nation’s cuisine says a lot about its people and culture, their philosophy and social beliefs,“ Chef says. “I think that when I learn their cooking, I learn about them.“ Passing on that acquired knowledge to those he cooks for is one of the chief joys he draws from his work.
Chef Matt Gordon is a member in good standing of the American Personal and Private Chef Association, and is certified in foodservice sanitation by the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness.
